This is the Castillon wine from the Saint-Émilion estate of Faugères, which is split in half by commune boundaries. The same care goes into this great value wine as into the Saint-Émilion, and this is a fine wine, full of superripe fruit and blackberry flavors.

Ripe nose, lots of sweet black fruit aromas, but not particularly complex or deep, a bit coarse; sweet on the entry, but also quite hard and unyielding in the mouth; there is plenty of fruit, but the other elements are not integrated well into the body of the wine; hard tannins, separate lemony touches; not a bad wine, but simple and somewhat rough. This is more like it; rich plumy nose loaded with dark fruit aromas and tar, licorice, earth and herbs, sweet but complex; big sweet first taste, but the density of flavor continues throughout; big and rich, lots of coarse tannins now, but should smooth out with time; layers of earthy fruit flavors with nice balance; this is among the best of these “lesser” properties that I have tasted.
