Foursquare, solid wine, its tannins tight and severe. There is good weight, with red berry fruits under the formidable exterior. To watch as it softens and opens.

91-93 Barrel sample. A powerfully fruity wine, full of black fruits, soft tannins and new wood spice. Modern in style, this still retains firm tannins and freshness.

92-94 Barrel sample. With considerable new wood, this is a complex wine. The wood marches in step with the fresh blackcurrant and ripe fruit flavors to give a wine that is juicy as much as structured.

Managed by André Lurton, this property has been revitalized in the past decade. The 2004 shows smooth blackberry fruit and ripe tannins, underpinned by the spice of finely balanced new wood. This suggests it is not a wine for long-term aging, but will be ready to drink in five years.

This seems to tread the line between power and great style with ease. While the fruit is concentrated, it is sweet and ripe, balanced with acidity. Very poised, layered with some good firm tannins and a solid core of dry fruits.

Light, light and light. This is such a soft, easy wine, already drinkable, the fruit fresh but missing concentration. The hint of smoke and wood are the only suggestion of complexity.

89-91 Barrel sample. A heavily wood dominated wine, the high toast character showing both in the aromas and to taste. It has weight, so maybe the fruit will come through - but not yet.

90–92 The wine has acidity, fresh fruit flavors and some dark tannins. It is full of life, the tannins showing as a counterbalance to the fresh fruit.

93-95 Hugely juicy fruit, with great ripe swathes of blackberries overlying the firmly drying tannins. Great structure here, impressive.

This wine continues the improvements at this classed growth chateau at the far southern end of the Margaux appellation. It is firmly structured, but the fruit is rich, showing juiciness from ripe, black fruits. The concentration and intensity offer excellent aging potential.
