Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of the big names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and this wine justifies the fame of the Perrin family’s property. It is a rich style, but, more importantly, it is beautifully made, structured, dense, with red jelly fruits, a touch of vanilla and a fat, full-bodied, but firm aftertaste. This is a wine for aging—give it at least five years before touching it. Imported by Michael Skurnik Wines.

A wine made with a high quantity of Mourvèdre (60%), and produced only in the best years, in memory of François and Jean-Pierre’s father. Superripe, with huge fruit, its’ jammy, gamy and rich. Dusty tannins and excellent black-fruit flavors. The final effect is a wine that epitomizes the potential elegance and the power of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in one glass. A great wine with a distinguished future—at least 20 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, rich wine with huge amounts of fruit oozing out of the glass. Great concentration and intensity, with licorice flavors from the Mourvèdre, finishing with chewy tannins. A great year for this wine, which should age well for 15 to 20 years.

The blended white from Beaucastel is every bit as enjoyable right now as the more expensive Vieilles Vignes bottling, offering more generous notes of honeyed oranges, a rich, weighty mouthfeel and a long, harmonious finish. Drink now.

This all-Roussanne cuvée is a broad, fat wine that somehow pulls itself together to deliver a long, mineral- and spice-tinged finish. Some nice pineapple fruit holds it together through the midpalate. Has a reputation for aging well, so this score may seem conservative in five years' time.

Think of this wine as a tough, ornery relative who shows great depth once you get to know him. Leather, chocolate and prune notes mark the aromas and flavors, and the wine shows some alcoholic warmth and drying tannins. But the class shows through on the finish, which is long and richly textured. Give it at least another five years in the cellar.
