Owned by the Peyronie family, and run by Pascale, this is one of the few estates in Pauillac not classified as a growth in 1855. That makes it a good value for the appellation, and this 2004, with its dense, solid fruit, packed with cassis and ripeness, is a good buy.

This wine has a distinctly herbal aroma and flavor. Sage, thyme and broccoli come to mind. The tannins are firm and frame secondary flavors redolent of coffee, plum and charry toast. Finishes with moderate length. Kosher.

Fonbadet is one of the few chateaus that are not classed growths on the heartland vineyards of Pauillac. It has a strong proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wine a strength of tannins and intense black currant flavors. With its firm tannins, it will age for many years.

92-94 Barrel sample. A rounded wine, its tannins submerged into the ripe fruits. It feels soft, and there is just a bite of alcohol. The structure is soft, generous, opulent.

92-94 A hugely fruity wine, very rich, concentrated and dense. It has great power and richness, the berry fruits racing with ripeness.
