This is only the second time I've tried a Latour, and the first I've tried one over 20 years old. Smooth and elegant. The wine evolved over the hour that we had it open. I got notes of cassis, leather, tobacco and earthy notes. It peaked at about the 30 minute mark with mocha and blackberry fruit notes. It's was a special wine that was perfect for celebrating my brother's engagement with the family.

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Wonderfully sweet nose with lots of mocha, sweet fruit, rich and intense with the usual Latour concentration and strong statement, quite smoky, vanilla, red and black fruits; meaty and deep with very rich and sweet flavors; this was an interesting contrast to the Pichon-Lalande which had the more seductive and elegant flavors, this having more grip and power and making a stronger statement; good grip here; dense textures and still quite adolescent in this format; spicy and peppery at the finish; a wonderful wine. (18.5/20)
