Dark, smoky aromas have high-toned black cherry fruit underneath. On the palate, the smoke and black cherry continue, on a rather slight, feminine frame. A wine that will complement, not overpower, food.

This Cabernet is drinkable now, and showing soft red fruit with coffee-mocha notes on both the nose and the palate. Very juicy on the finish. Enjoy through 2008.

Unusually complex for a wine in this price range, marrying grilled peaches with hints of toasted hazelnut and bacon fat, and wrapped in a layer of cedary, vanilla-scented oak. Medium-bodied, with a long, subtly oaky finish.

Loaded with smoke, hickory and vanilla, this definitely shows plenty of oak, but there’s also plenty of fruit to balance the ledger. Cola and blackberry flavors pick up a slightly tart edge on the long, finely textured finish.

Aromas are of apple turnover and minerals. Slim bodied and a little soft, but don’t dismiss this Chard right off as simple: It has a tight, sour core with peach and oak flavors rounding it out in the mouth. Imported by Pacific Wine Partners.

Most reviewers found this Shiraz a little run-of-the-mill, with oak and blackberry flavors in control from start to finish. Its proponents, though, found a lot to like about its coffee, leather and meaty aromas, and its long, black-tea finish.

Smells spicy, and similar smoke and spice flavors resurface on the palate. This is not a big, overdone style of Shiraz, but it's still a nice one. It has flavors of smoke and red fruit. Flashy and substantial on the midpalate—with good, gripping tannins and a smooth texture—but the palate entry and finish are not quite as impressive.

Harmony is the hallmark here. Apple, oak in the background and closing butterscotch are the flavors. The supporting cast of crisp acidity, medium body, and velvety mouthfeel complete this well-knit package. Best Buy.

Dried oak and barnyard aromas led to more juicy than fleshy flavors of red raspberries. Could have used more depth and structure, but an enjoyable wine nonetheless. —C.S.
