This is not as big or as concentrated as many 2000s. But it has elegance and style, along with fine, ripe perfumed fruit and attractive, balancing acidity. Give this wine at least 8 years before drinking.

92-94 Barrel sample. A delightful wine, with its delicate fruits, ripe tannins and fine, black plums. This is going to mature with grace and ease—a pleasure to drink.

89-91 Barrel sample. Very structured wine, dense tannins, weighty, extracted and dark. The fruit is hard to find in all this.

The 2001 is rich, dense, concentrated, with dusty tannins and solid black fruits. The palate is rich and spicy, with new wood flavors supporting firm, ripe fruit. The wine is still young, with dry fruit tannins and a layer of acidity, and excellent potential.

90-92 Barrel sample. Along with the new wood flavors, the wine has rich fruit, spiced with dried figs, dark berries and a rounded, fruitcake character. There's a good touch of perfume to lift the finish.

The most southern of the crus bourgeois estates in Margaux, the house at Siran is familiar to visitors from its pink exterior. This vintage is powerful, but still manages to exude that Margaux style and poise. There are dense tannins but they don’t overwhelm, leaving fine black fruits to balance the dryness.
