Tropical notes on the nose are as good as it gets; otherwise it smells like air freshener. In the mouth, it’s waxy and flat, with bland apple and vanilla flavors. Finishes pithy.

A step up from the regular Chardonnay but still a wine with issues. In this case, we’re talking about lack of excitement and style. The wine has body, citrus, tropical fruit and a bit of nuttiness, but it falls short of crossing the line that separates the better wines from the average ones.

Leather and spice are the more appealing aromas, while the palate features tightly wound but limited raspberry and red berry flavors. A narrow wine with snap, acidity and tartness but not much wealth or richness.

A bit rubbery and earthy at first, and then it steps it up to deliver generic but good sweet-and-sour red fruit along with lean, easy tannins. There’s nothing complicated or special about this; it’s basic Cabernet done decently.

Mature smelling, with earth and bramble vying with berry aromas. The palate is firm and feels solid, while the flavors of mixed berries are offset by some herbal action. Feels and tastes good enough, with no overt flaws.

Sweet and spicy up front, but also sort of foxy and herbal. The palate pushes plum, berry and vanilla, while the finish is short, mildly bitter and seemingly a bit burnt.

Warm and chunky, with a fair amount of compost and mushroom to the bouquet. Flavors of lean raspberries and green herbs are less than stunning, while the mouthfeel seems a bit crisp and tight. Adequate but not very generous or ripe.

A touch stemmy on the nose along with hints of compost, leather and animal. But in the mouth, it rings true as Pinot Noir. The flavors of spiced cherry and plum skin are light and zesty, but the wine isn’t a cipher. And the accents of vanilla and wood on the finish help it along.

An apple pie type of wine, meaning it’s got baked apple, cinnamon and pastry aromas and flavors. The palate is kind of soft and sticky, and with little vital acidity it struggles to keep up. Standard warm-climate Chardonnay.

Fairly earthy and a little bit herbal on the nose, with aromas of tomatillo, oregano and light fruit that almost amount to a nice salsa fresca. The body is a little big and flat, but there’s also generous fruit, size and finish. Richer than many Merlots in this price class, but with peppery, herb notes throughout.
