This vintage of Cigale’s GSM showcases more Grenache (63%) than in the past, which perhaps accounts for its slightly one-dimensional cherry fruitiness. Very supple, verging on syrupy in texture, it also shows a bit of warmth on the finish. Drink now–2012.

Soft in the middle with a tangy oak shell, this Shiraz offers up plenty of cushiony plum fruit and an easy feel. But it’s not a simple wine—there are enough oak shadings here to give it some complexity. Imported by The Australian Wine Connection.

This is an attractive Rhône-style blend of 40% Grenache, 32% Mourvèdre and 28% Shiraz, showing facets of each variety. There’s a bit of cola or chocolate from the Mourvèdre, blackberry and spice from the Shiraz and superripe stone fruit from the Grenache, which also contributes a lovely textural component. This is intense without being weighty or heavy, lingering elegantly on the finish.

Cigale’s 2006 Shiraz offers straightforward blueberry and subtle oak flavors that aren’t that rich or complex, but make for an easy-drinking full-bodied red to drink now and over the next few years.

Starts off with lovely blueberry, smoke and spice aromas, but adds hints of raisiny flavors that aren’t as likable. It’s a medium-bodied Shiraz with more focus than many others; one that has some impressive attributes, but a persistent note of dried fruit brings down the score.
