This vineyard is located in one of the coldest sections of Sonoma County, where the fog is unbarred by coastal hills. The wine shows that chilly, maritime influence in its sage and cherry tomato flavors. You either like this kind of earthy Pinot or you don’t. I like the dryness and tart, acidic structure. —S.H.

People donÕt think of California Gewurz as a serious wine, but this one is. From old, stressed grapevines on the Napa-Sonoma border, the flavors are dense and incredibly concentrated, suggested litchi, peach, honeysuckle, and all sorts of fruity nectars. Despite the massive size, itÕs on the dry side. This is a big wine that should not be served too cold.

Dense and concentrated, this Pinot achieves great complexity of structure while maintaining the requisite silkiness. Alongside deep blueberry and black cherry flavors, there’s also a tomatoey streak. —S.H.
