Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
My least favorite of the 2005 CH Grenaches, the Blewitt Springs is still an impressive wine. Dark fruit aromas and flavors of blueberry, blackberry and plum are accented by hints of dried spices and pepper. It’s creamy on the midpalate, then firms up on the finish, where a touch of heat is detectable. Drink 2010–2018.

Full in body and lush in texture, the 2005 Bakers Gully Syrah boasts exuberant aromas of fruitcake, followed up by flavors of brandied cherries, blueberries and blackberries. The long finish features hints of cracked pepper and licorice. Drink now-2015. Imported by Wine Brokers Unlimited.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full of dense chocolate and plumcake aromas and flavors, this is a full-bodied, creamy, rich wine, perked up by hints of orange zest and spice. It’s mouthfilling and round, yet promises to reveal more complexity with several years in the cellar. Drink 2015–2025. Imported by Wine Brokers Unlimited.

As might be expected from winemaker Roman Bratasiuk, this is a full-bodied, rich Syrah, loaded with dark scents of roast coffee, blueberries and baking spices. Blueberry, menthol and spice flavors dominate the palate, finishing long. Despite the massive richness, there’s plenty of elegance, too. Imported by Wine Brokers Unlimited.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Astralis has become one of Australia’s top collectibles, and Roman Bratasiuk’s 2005 version is once again top-shelf stuff. It’s full-bodied and rich without being over the top, balancing dark-chocolate-covered blackberries and blueberries with more complex savory notes (spice, grilled meat). While it’s a big, hulking wine at first, the finish shows great elegance and finesse, ending with silky tannins. Best from 2014. Imported by Wine Brokers Unlimited.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Verging on impenetrable, this is a dark and intensely concentrated offering. Aromas of asphalt, black olive and tea leaves hint at the complexities yet to emerge, while the richly tannic palate is chewy and drying yet mouthwatering at the same time. Drink 2015–2025.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of Clarendon Hills’ more affordable wines, the 2007 Moritz Syrah carries an intriguing hint of green peppercorn on the nose, alongside blueberries and graham crackers. Then the flavors turn meatier and more savory, blending in black olives and coffee. It’s medium in body and structured with silky tannins, making it immediately approachable. Drink now–2020.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The 2007 Clarendon is in a more feminine, approachable style than Roman Bratasiuk’s other 2007 Grenaches, featuring dried spices, watermelon and cherry aromas and fine—almost delicate—tannins. Cherry-berry flavors finish with hints of cinnamon and clove. Drink now–2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas are of red eraser, nut and dry earth or sand. On the palate it takes quite a different tack, its juicy black, blue- and raspberry fruit still tautly youthful. Powerful, though still so young; will probably show best in 5–8 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From one of the cooler sites in Clarendon Hills’ arsenal, this Grenache shows floral, slightly lifted aromas and hints of blueberry and strawberry. Yet it still shows the soft, lush texture of all of the CH Grenaches and a long, gently lingering finish.
