A bit on the sweet side, with flavors of lemonade, pineapple juice and vanilla. But it’s balanced with crisp acidity. Fine with ham, fruit salad, Chinese food.

A dry, tartly acidic, citrusy wine. There’s a strong greenness to it, a peppery, chlorophylly taste that gets those tastebuds going.

Rustic, country-style, call it what you will, this is a dry, rugged, fairly tannic wine with cherry-berry, coffee and earth flavors.

There’s some great flavor here, rich black cherry and blackberry fruit, and the wine is totally dry, but compromised by astringency, which gives it a sharp, rustic character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a hearty blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Syrah and Malbec. It’s soft and direct in cassis, cherry jam and pepper flavors, and feels a little rustic in the mouth. Good with everyday fare, such as sausages.

A very problematic Syrah. It’s unripe and harsh, with medicinal berry flavors. Turns vegetal on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Even at this price, this isn’t a very good buy. It’s soft and clumsy, with medicinal cherry lozenge flavors. It will do in a pinch.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Harsh and rustic, this Cab has disagreeably strong tannins and green flavors that barely suggest blackberries.

This Bordeaux blend is very dry and very tannic. There’s something old-fashionedly rustic about it. With deep blackberry flavors, it may age, but it’s not very hedonistic right now.

Here’s a nice, refreshingly clean Sauvignon Blanc that shows a lot of class for the price. It’s basically dry, with a honeyed finish to the green melon, golden mango and Asian pear flavors. There’s just a touch of tart green gooseberry for complexity.
