Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A stunning wine that shows off the excellence of its origin and the vintage. Long and deep in cherry, currant and mocha, with a round, creamy texture and plenty of smoky oak. The spicy finish lasts for a long time. So polished and delicious, it’s hard to resist now, but will age gracefully for many years. Note, though, that the Cliff Lede name appears only on the back of the label.

Here’s an upscale wine that’s bright in citrusy, grass, peach and fig-infused fruit and a layering of toasty oak. It’s full-bodied like a Chardonnay, but tart and crisp, with a long, spicy finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From S. Anderson, of sparkling wine fame, this wine has that seductively lush Stags Leap quality of a velvety mouthfeel and mouth-filling warmth. But then those iron-fist-in-a-velvet-glove tannins kick in, lending astringency to the polished blackberry flavors. Will develop gracefully for years.

Polished, rich, elegant and supple, with rich cherry and blackberry flavors and a long, spicy finish. Has got to be the result of careful selection.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich in fig, gooseberry, lemon and lime, chamomile and spice flavors, this bone-dry wine is impressively deep. It displays an elegance and finesse, as well as a power seldom found in California Sauvignon Blanc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It was fun comparing this Cab with the winery’s ’02 Claret. Two more different wines couldn’t be imagined. This one, with considerably more Cabernet, is harder and firmer in tannins, with an impressively ripe core of black currants. Tastes oakier, too, but can easily handle it. Drink now through 2007.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It’s not made in the flashy, fleshy New World style, but has an earthy, herbal flavor, with a hint of blackberry. Oak is not at all prominent in this dry, balanced wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An almost decadent wine, with superrich, softly sweet chocolate, plum and vanilla flavors and velvety mouthfeel. Saved by good acidity, it shows how Merlot really can be the soft Cabernet.
