Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With only 13% alcohol, this Sauvignon Blanc seems to have a little bit of sugar remaining, making it sweet in lemon, lime and pineapple flavors, like a power drink. But the acidity is crisp and refreshing, and provides needed balance.

Here’s a dry, somewhat brawny wine that has some charm. It’s filled with briary, peppery flavors, with fruits suggesting blackberries and cassis. Good value in an inexpensive steak and chops wine.

Black pepper aromas and flavors star in this dry Rhône-style blend. It’s a little soft in structure, with fine silky tannins that frame attractive blackberry, cherry, cassis and tangerine zest flavors.

If you like you Zinfandels very spicy and peppery, with a briary, rustic nature, this is for you. The flavors suggest blackberries, mulberries, blueberries and anise, with a roasted finish. But it’s that spicebox thing that really marks the wine.

Good Zin character, with brambly berry flavors and smooth tannins, but a little too sweet

Nice cherry fruit, in a big, bold, forward, friendly style. The fruit is perfectly ripened, balanced, full and nicely handled, with nothing obscuring the clean, ripe flavors. Well-made wine, with no unnecessary frills.

Intense, yet reserved and stylish. Features a deep and energetic bouquet of blackberries, funky earth and licorice. Slightly sour black fruits, reminiscent of a Northern Rhône wine. Bright tangy acidity. Not for sipping on its own, but recommended. Best Buy.

A few words that describe this wine are lusty, brawny, rustic, really ripe, jammy, peppery, smooth and spicy. In other words, classic Foothills Zin. But just as important is what it’s not. It’s not high in alcohol, nor is it sweet. Drink this balanced Zin with barbecued ribs.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
At five years of age, this Cab Franc still retains a solid core of sweet, jammy cherry fruit, accented with a sprinkling of black pepper, ground cloves, cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla. It also has a dusty coating of tannins that will fare well with a grilled steak.
