Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Blueberry, forest berry and a delicate floral touch round off richly toasted notes that glide smoothly over a harmonious whole. It lacked some of the building blocks to see it through the years, but we saw this as a gentle, easy wine to enjoy now with roasted or grilled meats. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.

The oak note is still a bit pungent here and the wine needs three or four more years of cellaring before reaching harmony. Beyond that, however, this super Tuscan blend offers a solid base of blackberry, spice, leather and tobacco.

Smoke and wood-driven aromas of vanilla, allspice and ground ginger follow fresh tones of lush cherries and blueberries. The wine is silky and smooth and boasts a soft and pleasant quality of tannins.

This exciting vintage of Nearco shows excellent harmony and concentration with aromas of cherry, blackberry, prune, spice and toasted wood. The wine is smooth, velvety, rich and extremely succulent. In fact, its natural softness is what makes it exceptional.

What a pretty aromatic combination of smoky bacon and bold, natural berries. The no-holes flavor profile is all about cherries and plums, while the finish is just as it should be; clean, simple and fresh, with nothing out of place or outlandish. An excellent wine for everyday purposes. —M.S.

Lean and tight, with sharp aromatics that veer in the direction of powdered fruit drink. In the mouth, it’s dry and fresh, with snappy acidity defining a svelte frame. For a Brunello ’99, it’s light-bodied. Tasted twice.

Olmaia is a pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that hits all the right marks. You can taste the variety’s natural flavors but they never seem green or medicinal. Instead the wine is plush, soft, round and opulent, with ideal harmony and balance and beautiful delivery of chocolate, cherry, vanilla and herbal aromas. The wine almost exaggerates, if possible, its generosity and roundness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Thick in extraction, Nearco is a ripe and meaty red with thick layers of blueberry, blackberry, coffee, tobacco, ink, vanilla, spice and cigar box that peel off one solid layer after the other. Nothing is understated here and the wine hits the palate with determined tannins.

This Tuscan estate, which dates back to the 1700s, is a modern sensation. The long, fashionable flavors of Sangiovese yield a wine of stunning value. Exhibits qualities of both Chianti and Brunello, with lovely aromas of vanilla, violets and raspberries.

The thick, moist skin of a fresh orange is the single most recognizable element of this wine’s sweet nose. Honey, almond and lemon zest also make an appearance, adding extra layers of complexity. Thanks to its chewy mouthfeel and good length, this late harvest Moscadello would make an excellent companion to an orange or lemon based dessert dish.
