Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A Syrah-Mourvèdre wine, one of a family of similar blends, all with Syrah as the common element. This sibling offers a flattering dark berry earth and toast bouquet. A palate loaded with ripe berry fruit follows, the plush, even feel adding to the pleasure quotient. Finishes with good length, slightly drier, anise-tinged flavors, and subtle, even tannins. Worth hunting for.

Another of the Syrconnection wines, this opens with a dark berry, earth and woody bouquet. Full and structured in the mouth, it shows the high acidity, dark berry and herb flavors, and vaguely metallic (some say herb) notes Grenache can show. Finishes somewhat astringently, with fairly hard tannins. Rustically solid, if somewhat rough now. A good value cellar candidate; hold and try after 2004.

This is the only one-grape member in the Syrconnection family of wines, as Syrah is blended here with, er, Shiraz (chuckle now.) It's deeply sweet with plenty of toasty oak wrapped around the briary, berry and plum fruit core. Tasty, even and lithe, but definitely dark, it displays strong espresso notes throughout. If you like 'em that way, you'll eat this up.
