This is a “wow” kind of wine; very refined and perfumed nose with deep and complex aromas, conjuring up earthy truffles and sweet floral scents at the same time, with a mix spicy black fruit aromas, subtle and elegant; the wine opens in the mouth with very sweet and ripe fruit flavors, but the wine is bottomless, sending one’s palate into the depths of a whirlwind of flavors that bring the magic of Burgundy to the fore; long balanced finish with nice citric nuances; this wine is mature and complete, but not aged. Fabulous nose, with ripe, rich buttery aromas that have a hint of spiced cookie dough, deep and spicy but subtle and complex, nice touches of smoke and earth; smooth and silky with elegant, ripe flavors in the mouth; black and red fruits mix beautifully in a balanced wine that has both depth and complexity; much better than a Bonnes Mares has a right to be; finish is clean and fresh with nice citrus touches and a long fade into the back of the palate. Funky, weedy aromas start an unpleasant journey down this lane, barnyardy and wooden with not enough sweet fruit to bring some balance into the mix, what fruit there is, is medicinal and unpleasant; surprisingly, better in the mouth as I was expecting a disaster; it actually began to grow in the mouth and tried to redeem itself, although it failed in that regard, the wine did reestablish some smooth, silky flavors that had enough sweet fruit to be interesting; the finish, although somewhat light and two-dimensional did have spiciness and some peppery qualities that at least provided some statement; probably much better some years ago. Impressive nose with gobs of sweet, ripe fruit, most of it is black cherry with a ripe, stewed quality, mixed with earth and truffle nuances, in a perfumed broth; great quantities of fruit in the mouth, ripe black cherry and currant flavors; pretty intense still at this age; this wine is a thoroughbred racehorse that is now at full maturity and can run the distance with ease; lovely balance and depth and a finish that is mouthcoating and supremely enduring.
