Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sangiovese (85%) and Alicante (15%) make up this vibrant Morellino di Scansano. The wine boasts pretty aromas of ripe berries, cinnamon, allspice and vanilla seed. It has a tart, clean finish that would pair well with pasta or chicken.

There’s a flashy, flirtatious edge to this Morellino Riserva that puts the spotlight on ripe, succulent aromas of black cherry, blueberry and sweet spice. The wine has polished tannins and a bright, fruit-driven finish.

This expression of Morellino di Scansano opens with bright, cheery aromas of red berry, blueberry and sweet almond paste. More almond and bitter spice nuances appear on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This 50-40-10 blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot from the southern Maremma area of Tuscany offers mature notes of blackberry and cherry backed by red apple, root beer, spice and mesquite wood. The wine shows characteristics of warm climate winemaking and is soft and chewy in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The nose here is awkward with notes of spice, clove and coffee hardly discernable under a heavy mantle of apple cider that may denote the presence of volatility.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Incredibly rich and ripe, a total departure from traditional dry Morellino. Cola, chocolate, caramel and blackberry aromas emanate from the bouquet, while the palate is loaded with black fruit and coffee. Finishes sweet, with fudge and mocha notes. A layered, meaty wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heavily sulfuric and gaseous. Below is a meaty, plummy, fat wine with heavy edges and dark flavors. More country in style; possibly a troubled vintage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Riserva takes Morellino to a new, more complex level: The fruit-forward, fresh blueberry characteristics usually associated with the wine are enhanced by lightly toasted notes, firmer structure and more tannins. Drink with braised meats or oven-roasted dishes.
