You won’t mistake this for a Burgundy. It smells big and plummy—not so Pinot-esque, really—with some violet aromas coming through with air. Black cherry flavors carry through to the finish. A little soft, but approachable and enjoyable now. Imported by Conquest Beverage Group.

Blended with 15% from the Mornington Peninsula, this is a medium-bodied, supple Shiraz with enough crisp acidity for balance. The aromas are dark and loamy, but the palate surprises with red raspberries and darker, earthier, meatier undercurrents. Drink 2010–2018.

This light- to medium-bodied Pinot features modest cherry-berry fruit and a touch of cinnamon spice. But there’s also a slightly acrid tinge to the aromas and this otherwise well-made wine lacks intensity and character.

This medium-bodied Chardonnay starts off with some slightly nutty-almondy scents that might be mistaken for oak, but on the palate the fruit speaks loud and clear. Pear and lemon flavors ring out the loudest, followed by a refreshingly citrusy finish.

Cooralook is making very good wines at affordable prices, and this Shiraz is in the same vein. It’s immediately approachable, offering crisp raspberry fruit tinged with herbal-grassy-briary notes and a softly dusty finish. It’s an easy sipper that won’t overpower most dishes.

Made in a fresh, fruit-driven style, the 2008 Cooralook Chardonnay displays vibrant lemon-lime and nectarine aromas, remaining similarly effusive on the palate, where it takes on tropical overtones. A bit on the simple side, but very good, it will scratch your fruit itch.

This is a terrific value in Pinot Noir, providing complex aromas and flavors that are simultaneously floral and peppery—think nasturtiums—and cherry-laden. It’s plump on the palate, with a silky texture and a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.
