Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Cathy Corison brings her deft touch to this blend from various Napa vineyards. It’s a soft, comforting wine, classic Napa Cab, with black currant and smoky oak flavors edging into chocolate. It’s opulent and proper rather than exciting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This winery has had a reputation for making Cabs in a leaner, more ageworthy style, but that is no longer true, to judge by this ’05. It’s as ripe and fruity as anything out there, and immediately drinkable for its beautiful blackberry, black currant, chocolate and cedar flavors. Still, the tannins are considerable, and the wine should easily negotiate the years. Best now and through 2013, at the least.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lovely mixed berries—black, red and blue—cedar shadings, and vanilla mark the nose of this elegant, finely crafted wine. Similar flavors prevail on the palate, with sophisticated licorice and pencil-lead accents. Balanced and graceful, it finishes dry and even, offering dried fruit and mineral notes. Complex and excellent already, but hold until 2004.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine is so balanced it hits the palate as impeccable and gorgeous. The flavors, of currants, cherries, vanilla and sweet oak, are only part of it. It is so dry, so richly structured in tannins and acids, so pure through the long, spicy finish, that it easily deserves its high score. Will age well for up to a decade.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is Corison’s single-vineyard, expensive Cab, and it’s not as immediately delicious as their ’05 regular Cab, which was released at the same time. However, the idea here seems to be ageability. It’s a tannic, very ripely extracted wine whose blackberry, currant and dark chocolate flavors in this hot vintage veer into raisins, which may limit cellarability.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit of a letdown after the great 2005, but still a pretty good wine, elegant and sophisticated in the Napa style. The tannins are soft and melted, and the flavors offer immediate rewards of blackberries, cherries, currants, cassis, anise and smoky oak. Will develop bottle nuances over the next eight years.

Smells very fine and pure. Classy black currants and toasty oak rule. Flavors are opulent, rich, ripe but very balanced. Gorgeous tannins; soft and accessible. Defines style and grace.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The vineyard is on benches between Rutherford and St. Helena. The wine is immaculate Cabernet in the modern style, soft and rich in blackberries and cherries that are so ripe, they veer into melted chocolate. This yumminess is complexed with smoky oak, and balanced with just enough dusty tannins to keep it all from collapsing.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A beautiful wine, dry and classically structured, showing the elegant balance for aging. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s long and deep in blackberries and cassis. Give it a brief decant if you open it now, but it should develop over the next six years, at least.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
You need to give this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon time in the cellar. It’s nowhere near ready, even if you’re used to tannins in your reds. It’s hard as nails in astringency. This 2006 vintage doesn’t have quite the concentration of the ‘05, but there are some lovely black cherry and black currant flavors, and they should begin to blossom in 4 or 5 years.
