Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
This wine is definitely pushing the limits of life, but has a rich and honey-laden nose, with mineral and herb notes, but it is also heavily maderized that will put off those who do not appreciate the aged whites; there is good sweet, honeyed fruit on the entry, with a nice citrus fruit and softened acidity, but the age of the wine reduces its staying power, resulting in a lemony finish, this finish that has an annoying metallic tinge at the end; now well past its best years, but an interesting journey. [Chevaliers Blanc II dinner} Interesting to taste a wine with this much age now; the first nose was suspicious, somewhat musty, but then the wine opened up to reveal a sweet and candied nose, very floral, peppers and herbs, honeyed fruit, ripe and rich aromas that have lots of heft; smooth and rich in the mouth; there is a wonderful silkiness about this wine with a richness that is not found in this property today; still there is a lot of balanced acidity that keeps the wine fresh; long smooth finish with great poise; still has plenty of life left for the keeping. Sweet and perfumed nose, soft, aromatic and rich with honey, aromas of cookie dough; not as ripe and rich as the nose would suggest, the wine is narrowly focused and citric; touch of cabbage; bitter herbs; the finish is citric and lean with strong mineral notes; couldn’t be more different from the 1990 above. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very sweet nose with exotic perfumes mixing with an interesting presence of talc, minerals, and honeyed fruit, slight hint of rubber; sweet fruit in the mouth with lots of ripe citrus; very focused; ripe and honeyed in the mouth in the Latour style; key limes and honey at the finish; lacks some precision in focus. (18/20) This wine was served from regular bottles at the XXVI Daniel dinner, pretty consistent notes, more vanilla bean in the mouth in this wine, and my notes reflect that I thought that the finish had a nice lemon-lime liqueur flavor, but overall pretty much on point.

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very perfumed and aromatic nose, very close to over-the-top aromas, candied fruit, vanilla, butterscotch, sweet fruits; sweet and ripe in the mouth; this wine has the flavors of extremely ripe fruit; a bit too candied for my tastes; there is good acidity in the wine, but the overall effect is one of heaviness and over-ripeness. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and minerally aromas, hints of green herbs, grasses, talc mixed with honey and a nice smokiness; sweet on the entry with big, powerful flavors; spicy with elegant, dry textures in the mouth; lots of power here, but never too much; dry lemony finish with a very elegant flourish at the end. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and aromatic with deep and rich scents, green herbs, honeyed fruit, smoke, hints of bacon fat, quite intense on the nose; sweet and ripe in the mouth; full with a lot of intensity still; smooth and with considerable fat; at the same time good acidity and wonderful ripe lemon flavors keep freshness in the wine; long finish with mature flavors but no sign of aging. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Full and complex nose that veers from sweet and rich on the one hand to austere and chalky on the other, honeyed fruit aromas, minerals, powerful nose but not effusive; dry and austere in the mouth, surprisingly citric and lacking in layers of flavor; tight and one is tempted to say that it is too young, but I suspect that it is not going to get much better with more time. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Deep and rich nose with loads of richness and texture, hint of smoked meat, beeswax, green herbs, but a bit coarse; good crisp lemon acidity in the mouth; not a particularly deep or complex wine although it shows more depth than some; good sweetness that shows up in flavors of butterscotch and caramel; long finish; better than expected. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Powerful nose with lots of herbs and green olive aromas, wafting hint of cabbage, powerful and focused aromas; not as good in the mouth as one would have hoped; opens a bit grassy and green, there is plenty of citrus fruit in the mid-mouth, but the wine lacks the depth and definition of a great Corton; slightly smoky and interesting in the mouth, but finishes a bit thin and bitter.
