Sweet and ripe nose, spicy and peppery aromas, smoky, rich aromas with a soft texture; sweet and soft on the first touch in the mouth, but quickly turning dry and citric; there is not a lot of depth or flavor in this wine; mostly spices and pepper, but pretty much on the surface; this is a somewhat superficial wine, and has to be drunk soon

Sweet and very aromatic, chocolate and tar aromas, deep and intense with a touch of licorice and black spices; sweet and ripe in the mouth, loaded with elements of tar and blackstrap molasses; earthen but with layers of ripe fruit; a voluminous wine with rich flavors and the powerful structure of this property evident; long spicy finish; really quite good and while mature, can still improve.

Musty at first, but then soft and sweet aromas emanate from this wine, mixed with the classic earth of St. Estephe, followed by pepper and anise, smoke, and ripe fruit; sweet and soft in the mouth, the wine starts with loads of ripe mature fruit flavors, that give way in the glass to more pronounced acidity and big tannins; the balance is retained, however, and the wine finishes with a nice mix of black cherries and dry chewy textures; not as elegant as the Montrose in this vintage, and not as full as the Calon-Segur, it is still excellent at this stage of its life. Odd nose, both tough and sweet at the same time, an interesting mix of aromas of pencil erasers and rubber bands with perfumed candy aromas and toffee, caramel, and licorice; tough on the palate, living up to the reputation that this vintage is gaining; big dry tannins, pepper, austere and unyielding; searing dry finish; if this is going to soften up, it is some years away; not pleasant at this juncture.
