A pretty nice everyday Chard. A little soft and simple, but rich in apricot, stewed peach and buttered toast flavors. The grapes are from Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties.

Cosentino has a lot of Napa Bordeaux reds out there: the M. Coz, Legends and Poet, among others. This is not his finest wine from the vintage, but it’s a very good wine. Polished and refined, it has black currant and oak flavors and is dry. But there’s some thinness. Drink now–2009.

Marked by excessive oak, with toasty-sweet caramel flavors dominating the ripe blackberry and cherry pie flavors. Nice tannins, though. Drink now.

Easy and likeable for its wealth of cherry, blackberry, currant, chocolate and spice flavors, this ripe Syrah is dry and gentle in tannins. It has some complexity and will play well against rich meats.

Not bad for a dessert wine, but the overt sugariness is a turnoff.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Way too high in hot, unbalanced alcohol and sweet, glyceriney tastes, this Zin is soft and simple. It has melted jam flavors of cherries and raspberries.

There’s a fanciness to this Cab Franc. It’s in the elaborately refined tannins, the rich appliqué of smoky oak, and the ripe, savory flavors of cherry purée, red currants and cinnamon spices, with a sprinkling of vanilla and cocoa. This soft, gentle wine is ready to drink now with good grilled beef.

This is a wine Cosentino has negotiated with the basketball legend, Larry Bird, hence its name, and to my knowledge, it’s the first time the winery has ventured to Sonoma for Cabernet. It’s a good wine, not great. Savory in plum, black currant, cocoa and coffee flavors, it’s dry and full-bodied, and should hold for a couple years.

You never quite know what to expect from a Cab Franc, but Napa red wine specialist Mitch Cosentino has produced one of the more definitive bottlings. It’s softer and plumper than Cab Sauvignon, with a silky texture and lush cherry fruit that’s been well-oaked. From a St. Helena vineyard.

Not much going on in this dry, light-bodied Pinot Noir. It has baked, pie-filling cherry flavors and a silky texture. Seems pricey for what you get.
