Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fairly tight and foresty, with more leather and herbal characteristics than full-force berry fruit. Sort of basic in a good way, with comfortable but run-of-the-mill red and black fruit flavors. Finishes with a hint of spice. Imported by Billington Imports.

With dark aromas of tar, black pepper and blackberry, this presents itself well. The palate is creamy, smooth and ready, with baked, lightly raisiny flavors of black currant, blackberry and brown sugar. For sheer ripeness, this is at peak level, so drink this impressive Cabernet-Merlot blend now.

Very particular yet still very Riesling. Oily, tight aromas signal intensity, which is delivered on the peach-like palate that turns creamy toward the finish as banana and papaya take over. There’s a bitterness throughout, and at points it’s interesting while at others it’s too much. Also in abundance is the taste of pepper. A unique wine with attitude.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This boisterous young Cabernet really shows the new style at Cousiño-Macul. This Cab has maple, vanilla and licorice to go with cassis, pepper and a drop of cherry cough syrup. It’s big, polished and shows integrated tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Too much scrambled egg and burnt, gaseous notes on the nose. Spritzy on the palate, with oak and banana flavors. Barely acceptable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Displays a lot of Macul-driven eucalyptus on the nose, but also leather, licorice and herb aromas. The color is dark, and the structure and tannins are both firm. Tastes of powerful cassis and blackberry and shows concentration. Finishes thick, smooth and a touch syrupy. Drink now through 2014.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A full-bodied, Southern Hemisphere style of Riesling with a touch of petrol on the nose but mostly bigger tropical aromas. The palate is loaded with ripe grapefruit, citrus pith and good acidity. Heavy yet balanced for a warm-climate Riesling, with a long finish of citrus.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A serious, fairly rich wine with grippy tannins and typical Maipo aromas of herbs, tobacco and olive that meet at eucalyptus. Hails from low-production old vines in Macul and Buin; the wine is round and full in the mouth, with lightly roasted berry flavors and touches of sweet caramel and chocolate on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
More yellow in color than SB, with a soft nose that suggests an easygoing wine. And that’s pretty much what it is; the flavors lean toward melon, lemonade and banana, and overall it could use more finesse and cut. Still, it’s a sweet, easy drinker.
