Medium-bodied and supple, this pleasing blend includes 10% proportions of Merlot and Malbec, along with a little Petit Verdot. Tannins are sharp and slightly bitter, but with some more bottle age the tangy berry fruit flavors may compensate. Meanwhile, give it a lot of airing out.

Almost no one makes a dry chenin anymore. This is off-dry, fruity and simple, showing nothing of the complexity this grape can achieve if treated right. Citrusy fruit, slightly sugary finish.

This is beautifully sweet and fragrant in the glass, redolent of citrus blossom and a hint of talcum powder. Off-dry with a distinctive spicy streak, it seems to gain concentration through the finish. Big apricot and tangerine fruit extends into a soft, spicy landing.

A dry style, tightly wound with hints of herb and spice. Simple, crisply rendered, and very fresh, with citrus-flavored fruit.

Light cherry and prune fruit. This is simple, soft and round, with sweet, pruney fruit and a little coffee/spice on the finish.

Fresh and forward, bursting with floral and citrus scents and ripe, semi-tropical flavors. A splash of Muscat Canelli in the blend brings up the orange blossom and tangerine flavors.

Covey’s barrel select wines are given significantly more time in oak, and taste that way. This is not particularly well integrated; the oak is laid on thick, smells like lumber, and has a bitter, roughly tannic edge to it.

Supple and structured, this wine is a very pleasant surprise. Red meat and coffee spice light up the nose; the midpalate is firm and anchored in clean, varietal cassis fruit, lightly hinting at raspberry. It has good grip and a medium-long finish; this could actually cellar for 6–8 years.
