Not a bad Pinot Noir from Marlboro, New Zealand. When I first opened it and took a quick sniff, it reminded me of the Cote de Beaune Pinot Noir I had a week ago (see my note on Albert Morot Pinot Noir 2004, 14 March), which was excellent. Not only was the aroma similar, but the big plum flavor was quite a bit the same. This wine had a bit more body to it than the Burgundy, and the plum wasn't as pronounced. Crossings Pinot is estate grown, so you're getting a quality wine. We definitely enjoyed it, and I recommend it as an inexpensive ($19) alternative to Burgundy.
