Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wonderfully elegant cru expression is full bodied and rich with smoky tones of cedar and tobacco over blackberry, cassis and red rose aromas. The tannins are big, firm and lend a sturdy, powerful feel in the mouth that will become silkier and even smoother with time.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine has a persistent vegetal note to its aromas that may put some tasters off; others may not be bothered by it. Flavors are earthy and moderately rich, blending sweet notes of dried fruit with mushroom and tar. Long, tannic finish picks up hints of coffee beans.

Like Damilano’s Liste bottling, this one also has a strong vegetal streak to its aromas. Black cherry and coffee flavors are ripe and loaded with chewy tannins. If you can get past the green, you’ll like this better than we did. Drink 2008–2015.

This is a very attractive oak-aged Barbera with aromas of sweet spice, bitter chocolate and loads of bright berry fruit. The wine is compact, clean and thanks to the bright acidity, it leaves your palate polished and fresh.

Pure and strapped, with plenty of oak but even more racy blackberry and pepper. The power is on here; cherry, plum skin and currant are wrapped snugly amid tight tannins. Overall it’s lean and inspired, and it would be sensational with meat-filled tortelloni.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An appealing bouquet of stable, earth and underbrush lure you to believe there’s not much fruit here. Once the wine is in your mouth you see that this is not true. The flavors are bursting with juicy blackberries drizzled with tar, then the wine finishes full and silky.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Delicate fragrances of blue flowers, pressed violets, exotic spice and white pepper emerge from the nose of this Nebbiolo from the Langhe. The wine shares a lot in common with its big brothers Barbaresco and Barolo, including a firm tannic finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From one of Italy’s greatest vineyard designations, this Cannubi Barolo shows all the beauty and elegance that makes Piedmont a wine region celebrated and envied around the world. The 2007 edition of the wine is particularly soft and ripe with plush cherry and pipe tobacco aromas followed by a smooth, velvety finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The beautiful Brunate cru is known for heavier, darker expressions of Nebbiolo and this wine does a wonderful job of showing off its territorial traits. Aromas here include coffee, hazelnut, wild berries, tar, leather and exotic spice. It’s balanced and firm and will surely evolve favorably over the next decade.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Damilano is a modern take on Barbera; a big, very ripe, chunky wine that is easy to like. The fruit is thick with dark jammy flavors, and although there are hints of something more exotic lurking, at the moment all you have is a hint of spice. Easy to drink now, but worth cellaring for a couple of years, as it will prove to be more interesting with some bottle age.
