Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mature, but showing an attractive nose with a spicy, saddle quality. However, the thin fruit seems cedary or burnt and the wine closes with some astringency. Seems tired already.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Straddling the line between dry and off-dry, this crisp, acidic wine is filled with citrus, peach and wildflower flavors that finish in a tremendous swirl of Oriental spice. It has great structure, and is complex enough to accompany racy, Asian-inspired fare.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich perfume of honey, peach, smoke and a green minty or anise note; lively and fresh. Very clean and balanced. It’s on the austere, herbal-mineral side, with tight citrus flavors and crisp acidity. Notable for its fine structure.

Chenin is a high acid wine, and there’s a tartness in the finish here that some will find sour. But that makes the wine a natural for chewing through butter, oil, cheese. Coming from the Pinnacles region, in the eastern hills of the Salinas Valley, the wine displays citrus, apricot and peach flavors. Best Buy.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This isn’t nearly as ripe as most North Coast Zins. You get a hit of cherries, but then a follow-up of wintergreen. Brisk acidity and dryness emphasize the minty quality, making the wine somewhat tart and rustic.

Spicy and rich, with hints of melon, mandarin orange and lemon. It strikes a nice balance, with good body and acidity. A versatile wine for many occasions, from sipping to serious eating.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the winery’s Bordeaux blend. It’s not very ripe, with an asparagus twinge in the flavor. It’s also very tannic and dry. The end result is not terribly satisfying.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dry and delicious, this elegant wine straddles the line between ripe blackberry and plum flavors and earthier, peppery ones. The finish is distinguished and prolonged. Notable for its balanced structure. The wine’s firm tannins suggest short-term aging.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a distinctive wine that projects tea, mushroom, smoke, rhubarb and roasted vegetable aromas and flavors. Solid, tart cherry fruit rides a light- to medium-weight frame. It may sound weird, but it holds together well, showing unique character in a field of too many clones.
