The local Alfrocheiro grape, when ripe like this, yields broad sweeps of ripe black, tarry fruit. This wine is big, fat and stately. It will offer a great time if you drink it now, but it will certainly age well over the next 5–10 years. —R.V.

There is an austere initial feel to this impressive wine, driven by its firm tannins and tight texture. It is dense and concentrated while also having black currant fruits that underly this intense structure. It certainly needs aging for several years.

Wood-aged, sophisticated wine in homage to the present Countess of Santar. This is beautifully smooth with just a hint of oily texture, lime juice and sweet melon flavors. Worth aging another year to bring its great flavors together.
