Slightly buttery and unstable on the nose, with popcorn and light raspberry aromas. More lightweight berry fruit comes forth on the palate, which is dominated by a dry tea-like quality. Clean but underwhelming.

Starts shy, but then reveals a smoky nose of dried cherries and freshly fallen leaves. Still fairly youthful on the palate, where plum and cherry flavors are braced by a ripping note of hickory smoke. Barrel notes take over on the finish, but overall it has a lot of what you want from a 21st-century Rioja.

Open and simple, with fresh red-fruit flavors prior to a soft but tart finish. There’s just enough stuffing here to keep things afloat, yet it’s best initially and thins as it opens up.

A standard but solid Tempranillo is what you’re looking at. The nose pushes red fruit and some American oak aromas like pickle and dill. The feel is fresh and young, but also a little fleshy and substantive. Finishes friendly and smooth.

A mix of four grapes, headed by Tempranillo and Garnacha, this is a good, hefty blend. Plenty of red fruit and toast on the nose, with lots of color and zest. Meaty and full of new oak, with plum and berry fruit backing things up. Smooth on finish. Quite nice.

The bouquet mixes bramble and berry notes, which turn rougher and more vegetal as time passes. The palate is peppery and light, with just adequate cherry and berry flavors. A light, distant wine with some similarities to Beaujolais Nouveau.

Light raspberry along with charred wood carries the modest nose. Additional raspberry flavors blend with sweeter strawberry tastes to create a mildly creamy, easygoing palate. Finishes fairly buttery, with toast and popcorn notes. An attempt at a major-league wine that is semi-successful.

Smells a touch sour and leathery, with thin cherry fruit. Seems roasted and heavy on the finish, and a bit lacking in structure. The mouthfeel is starching as well.

A tutti-frutti nose leans toward candied cherry and red plum, while the palate is lean, a touch shrill and tastes of lightly herbal red fruits. Nothing heavy or weighty here; it’s a simple, perfectly good everyday Rioja with a hint of oak.

Despite some spearmint and Band-Aid on the nose, this ready-to-drink wine shows good quality from head to toe. The palate is on the lighter side, with nice acidity pushing smacky, lively red plum and raspberry flavors. Hints of tomato and citrus fruits also get into play.
