Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Has the weight, creamy texture and oak of a bigtime Chardonnay, but the flavor profile is entirely different. Here, you get a mélange of tropical fruit, wildflowers and dusty spices. The flavors are massive, but the wine’s acids and tannic structure corral these wild horses and keep them from running wild.

Crisp acidity blends easily with creamy smooth texture here. This is a fine juxtaposition of mineral, apple, pear, spice and citrus flavors, neatly layered for complexity and eleganty structured. Long and bright at the end.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The wine starts of with intriguing bacon and earth tones that are followed up by rich, ripe raspberry, black cherry, spice, licorice, herb and toast flavors. It’s beautifully balanced, with supple tannins and a flashy, robust character that remains enticing and long at the end. Look for more of this varietal from Darioush as its Shiraz vineyards mature.

A little too soft and direct, with a melted butter sweetness to the tropical fruit, spice, white flower and toast flavors. Could use greater depth and structural complexity.

Made in a tart, citrusy style, like an elegant Chablis, this rich, balanced Chardonnay shows candied flavors of pineapples, lemon custard, Key lime pie and stony minerals. Brisk acidity provides a keen, bracing balance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is sensuous Chardonnay that provides plenty of texture and depth without being heavy. The bouquet is robust and complex, with pear, smoke, vanilla, cumin and an appealing oatmeal-graham cracker-like note. A full spectrum of similarly ripe fruit flavors coats the mouth, bolstered by good acidity, and you can almost sink your teeth into the full, chewy mouthfeel. This very impressive bottling finishes long and complex, with grainy pear, spice and buttery notes. Editors’ Choice.

Rich, ripe and extracted, with a wealth of blackberry, cherry and cola fruit flavors. Missing some depth and subtlety, but it sure is a polished and delicious sipper. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The winery’s top bottling, and this vintage recalls the tremendous 2000. Tastes important right off the bat, although it’s also obviously young and unintegrated. New, smoky oak dominates, with themes of ripe, concentrated blackberries and cassis, but the tannins are hard as nails. Wants and needs time. Best well after 2013, and should develop for years beyond.

Rich and extracted in sweet cherry and blackberry tart filling, with sweet notes of caramelized oak. A lush, rewarding Merlot perfect for drinking now and over the next several years with its natural partner, a fine grilled steak.

Really smooth textured. Quite elegant as well, with sleek, complex layers of black currant, blackberry, plum, black cherry, herb, chocolate, coffee, spice, toast and a beguiling hint of tar. The wine is incredibly complex and inviting, framed beautifully in velvety tannins. Long and lush on the finish, it’s blended from grapes grown on Mt. Veeder, Atlas Peak and the Napa Valley floor.
