Aromas of mint, berry syrup and dense, lemony oak lay a good foundation for the heavy black fruit that comes on the palate atop a plush carpet of toasty, fresh-grained wood. The finish is round, tasty and mouthfilling, while overall the wine seems to dance due to popping acidity. This is Carmenère with a vital streak.

Dark gold color and buttery nose say that it was heavily oaked during its fermentation and afterward. The palate is flat and resiny. On the finish, buttered toast and some bitter, oaky leftovers hold it back.

The nose is rustic, with horse hide, bramble bush and spicy, subdued black fruit. The palate is round and rich, with pure and ripe berry fruit along with some supporting oak. The finish is equally nice, with notes of licorice, coffee and spices.

Arguably a bit overwooded, but if you like a hefty wine (14.5%) with an oily feel, this is it. The mouthfeel is slick and a bit greasy, but with extract to spare that’s the way it is. The flavors are big and typical, with peach, apple and popcorn. A big boy from the Southern Hemisphere.

Standard but crisp red-fruit aromas are the greeting, while the main course is centered around bright raspberry and cherry flavors. It shows a touch of varietal character, meaning it’s spicy and a touch saucy. But overall it registers well, with medium depth and length.

A little sweet, dense and pasty on the nose, and that’s also how the wine plays out. It’s a ripe style of Carmenère, with brooding but not overly expressive black-fruit flavors. Ripeness is clearly not an issue as it shows no vegetal or herbal notes. Simply big, bold and not terribly unique.

The inkly purple color indicates a lot: this is a huge, overextracted type of blend that treads heavily from start to finish. Searing fruit with heat and menthol certainly connotes ripeness and size but it doesn’t translate into elegance and pleasure.

Starts out a touch raw and woody, then cherry, plum and popcorn flavors come out on the tongue. Fairly lean and driving, with a candied, firm finish. Forward and tannic, with quite a bit of snap. Imported by Global Vineyard Importers.

The fact that this wine is organic is not what stands out. It’s that it hails from warm Maipo Valley and yet it possesses zesty lime, lemon and grapefruit that impresses. From start to finish the wine offers sweet and sour notes that comfortably offset one another, and in the end it comes together well.

Soft and melony, with candied fruit and mild citrus that turns a little mealy on the end. Has some kick and flavor, but it doesn’t settle on any common ground.
