Sweet at first, with aromas of corn, hay and minty alfalfa. Quite nice across the palate, with a fine mouthfeel. In the mouth, flavors of apple and lemon soda are full, smooth and clean. Fades fast on the finish, yet you can’t gripe about the overall quality.

Light and airy on the bouquet, with lovely rosemary and other green-herb notes. Zippy acids deliver flavors of pear and candied apple right to the precipice of one’s palate. And even if it finishes a bit tangy and shrill, it’s got great feel and purity.

Biscuit aromas are a good starter for this bone-dry Champagne, which works because of bottle aging. It is crisp, full of biscuit tastes with some green fruits. It also has a tannic structure; piercingly dry overall. Imported by De Saint Gall.

Somewhat clumsy, this wine emphasizes a ripe style of Chard, which doesn’t quite integrate well. Maybe it needs bottle age, but the dosage shows awkwardly at the finish. Imported by De Saint Gall.

Round, yeasty and rich, with apple and lemon flavors that are perfectly bolstered by almond and butterscotch. Once in the mouth you notice some weight and drive. It’s a persistent wine, with plenty of body and a solid acidic core.

Mature, yet still quite lively, this less-familiar luxury bottling deserves more attention and is worth the hunt. The full apple, hay and earth bouquet is accented by dark, rich, almost meaty notes. It displays an even bead, lovely balance, and a full but not heavy mouthfeel with dried fruit flavors and caramel accents. An impressive bottling that closes long and dry, drinks well now, and has the stuff to last through the decade.

Light in color, but full of zest. De Saint Gall is an underrated producer that delivers the goods year after year. Here the scent of vanilla sets the stage for light, pure flavors if banana, pear, anise and cinnamon. It's a little lean but in no way mean. Perfect balance and acidity render it beyond ordinary.

Young and sharp, with initial saline aromas that quickly improve and change to pear and pine. Precise flavors of green apple and citrus run long and snappy, as full-force acids drive it to the finish. Very tight and narrow in body, but with impeccable freshness and not much sugar.

This big, friendly wine shows ripe, forward scents of mixed citrus and light tropical fruits, along with toasted nuts. Medium-rich and already showing some aged, slightly oxidized character, it is definitely built for near-term drinking.

This little-known house is turning out some fine bubbly. This is an intense, brooding wine, filled with dark toast and meat, earth and soy complexities. It’s a big, mouth-filling wine, creamy and rich, finishing long. Seems mature already, so drink up.
