From the Santa Lucia Highlands, this is a dry, crisp Pinot, with a stony minerality to the intensely ripe cherry and root beer flavors. It feels upscale in the balance of acids, tannins and oak. Drink now.

Made from the fanciest clones, this wine tastes a bit stewed, although it has Pinot’s silky texture and forward cherry, pomegranate and vanilla oak flavors. Hard to say what went wrong in this cool vintage.

There’s an explosion of ripe fruit in this dry wine—blackberries, cherries, raspberries and milk chocolate. It’s basically a fruit bomb, though, with just enough acids and tannins to make it balanced.

Vegetal, and the richer pineapple and vanilla cream flavors do nothing to make it go away. Through the dry, acidic mouthfeel, that taste of asparagus comes through.

Dry and sharp in acidity, with a tart mouthfeel, this Pinot also has some overripe flavors of raisins and bitter, tannic raisinskins. Seems like a problem at the sorting table. Decent, but not going anywhere.

Simple and a little unbalanced, this Merlot has Lifesaver candy cherry flavors with a touch of vegetal greenness, while oak adds needed richness. It’s very dry and soft.
