Decoy is Duckhorn’s second wine. This wine is a Bordeaux blend based on not quite half Cabernet Sauvignon, made from vineyards throughout Napa Valley. My main quibble is that it’s sweet, with a white sugar tinge to the cherries and blackberries.

From Duckhorn’s second label, this Bordeaux blend is based on Cabernet and Merlot. At less than half the price of Duckhorn’s main Cabs and Merlots, it’s a very good buy, showing richness, balance and complexity. The blackberry and cherry fruit has been tastefully enhanced with smoky oak. A great food wine.

Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this is a dry, full-bodied wine that shows considerable sophistication and elegance. Fruit aficionados will find a wealth of blackberries, cherries and cocoa, while structuralists will like the firm tannins and acids. Quite good now and for a few years.

This is a delightfully crisp, drily balanced Sauvignon Blanc that’s perfect as a cocktail sipper with little appetizers. Made without any oak influence, it shows the variety’s grapefruit, Meyer lemon, lime and grassy side, along with zesty acidity.

A little green and minty, but a pretty good Merlot for its dryness and smooth tannins, and the way the black cherry and chocolate fruit meets the oak. Drink now. Production was 15,000 cases.

This is a strongly flavored Cabernet. It has upfront blackberry and red cherry jam flavors, with some sweet spicy notes from French oak barrels. It’s not a wine you want to age, but is smooth and flattering now.

This wonderful wine showcases the blender’s art. The grapes come from 11 appellations throughout the valley, and the wine, while notable for its delicious flavors, also is great in structure. It has soft tannins and refreshing acidity, and is entirely dry, with moderate alcohol. Those flavors include raspberry jam, cherry-vanilla cream, cinnamon and white pepper. So easy to like.

This is Duckhorn’s second label for their Napa Bordeaux reds, and with this ’06 vintage, it’s on the thin, herbal side, with only modest cherry-berry flavors. Dry and very tannic, it’s not an ager.

Mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little Franc, this blend has rich but soft tannins and lush, superripe fruit. The blackberry jam, cassis, black cherry and cocoa flavors are wrapped in a creamy texture, and finish impressively long.
