Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hints of toast and citrus on the nose give way to frankly sweet strawberry flavors. Yes, it's meant to be somewhat sweet, but this is verging on being unbalanced.

Fruity and berryish on the nose, with an exuberant, almost aggressive mouthfeel. There's a hint of toast as well, plus some fruity flavors that make this a decent party pour.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Classic lime, slate and green apple aromas and flavors signal this budget-priced offering’s origin. It’s light and delicate, just as it should be; the only knock on this wine is its soft, short finish. Still, it’s a fine example of how good some of the lower-priced wines can be in 2003.

Rieslings drawn from Bereich Bernkastel, as this one is, are often floral, but this one is oddly floral, with a plasticy note to the flavors of apple and pear.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Founded in 1794, Deinhard is an old merchant house—what the French would call a négociant—that markets a wide array of wines. The company’s 1808 price list offered 89 different Rhine and Mosel wines, but that’s been at least somewhat shortened in recent years. No, it’s not that intense, nor does it show a lot of minerality, but this wine ably shows off Mosel Riesling’s array of fruity, off-dry flavors, ranging from peach and pear to apple, pineapple and lime. Crisp and clean on the finish.

Earthy and tart, with modest citrus fruit competing with damp clay and hints of chalk dust.

Smells good, with fresh lime zest notes playing a leading role, then turns floral and almost insubstantial in the mouth. Finishes with more citrusy flavors of tangerine and grapefruit.

This crisp lightweight is a perfect patio sipper for this summer—tart, mouthwatering and refreshing. Green apple and grapefruit flavors finish short, but look at the price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Snappy and fresh, this is a large-production German Riesling that manages to rise above mediocrity. You’ll find green apple and lime flavors, while a touch of red berries make an interesting counterpoint. Firm acidity on the finish makes the wine seem almost dry, despite some residual sugar.
