Surprisingly closed and dumb nose, little aromas, what there is has to be coaxed out of the glass and then the wine gives up faint aromas of black fruits, tar, licorice and green peppers; in the mouth the wine is also reticent to offer up much; there is the presence of fruit and tar, cassis, pepper and spice, but the wine lacks life; dull flavors fail to energize the palate, in what is supposed to be one of California’s premier wines; I was disappointed in this bottle, expecting more of a showing.
