Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Scents of leather, cola and brown sugar give way to cleaner, fruitier notes of blackberry on the palate, marked by ample vanilla oak. A blend of 78% Cab Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 3% Cab Franc, it’s medium-bodied and fresh, with a slightly minty finish framed by soft tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A refreshing, utlitarian white, just right for apéritifs on the deck and summer weddings. Dust and lemondrop aromas; lemondrop and white peach flavors are couched in a soft, dry mouthfeel. Has acids manageable enough for wine newcomers, and enough quaffing enjoyment for anyone. 57% Sauvignon, 26% Semillon, 17% Chardonnay. Imported by Southcorp Wines.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich cassis aromas are tinged with a ribbon of green. The berry and plum fruit flavors are flat, rather than ripe and textured. Fine for casual gatherings. A blend of Cab, Merlot, Shiraz and Cab Franc. Imported by Southcorp Wines.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Margaret River Chard has a good spine, with textbook yellow stone fruit flavors and aromas. It straddles the line between creaminess and crispness well, but has an odd lactic quality that is a detraction. Imported by Southcorp Wines.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The best feature of this Bordeaux blend (nearly three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon) is its cottony, furry tannins. Tobacco, wheat toast and nutmeg flavors and aromas are compelling if fading a little already, but they also cover up the wine’s tart, plummy core. An Old World-styled wine, not a bruising fruit bomb. Imported by Southcorp Wines.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It’s not a big-boned wine, but its powdery tannins give it texture to spare. Mixed plums and cherries are out in full force on the palate. A blend of Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A surprisingly strong effort from a Foster’s label that’s languished a bit in recent years, this is an intense, moderately ageworthy red that’s two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, the rest is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Scents of dark chocolate and mint add cassis, finishing with firm dusty-textured tannins. Drink 2008–2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine has both its fans and its detractors: in other words, it’s one to judge more by words than by score. It has a strong eucalyptus component on the nose and on the palate, plus substantial cherry fruit. It also offers up chalky, claylike tannins, but not enough to mask these very distinctive flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very meaty in the nose, with an uncanny similarity to bacon. This wine is on the fat, soft side of the fence, and it doesn’t have a lot of persistence or drive. But it does offer rich black fruit, ample oak and some satisfying big-bodied flavor. A little more balance would help it along.
