Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This stellar 2004 may be even richer than a tank sample of the 2005, with lovely pear and pepper aromas and honeyed flavors married to great minerality and freshness. A blend of 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne, with 60% of the total fermented in oak, the rest in stainless steel. Drink now–2012.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A full-bodied, richly textured example of Hermitage, Belle's '04 starts off with scents of crushed stones, then adds flavors of melon and pear to the mix. It lingers elegantly on the finish. Drink now-2020.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
At first glance, this medium-bodied wine seems overly astringent, with crisp acids accentuating the firm tannins. But give it some time in the glass, and the black cherry-plum-cassis fruit starts to move to the fore. It may still be a bit of a gamble, but it should round into form by 2012 and drink well through 2017.

Domaine Belle Syrah - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Comes out of the bottle with a slightly smoky, struck-match aroma, then settles down into melon and pear tinged with anise. It's full bodied, but not long or intense enough on the finish to warrant a higher rating.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Deep concentrated color. Earthy, gamy, mixed berry, black olive aromas prevail with a lifted leafy note. Full-bodied and solid, slightly chunky texture but moderately high flavor intensity with more dominant raspberry, blackberry notes. Moderately complex with hints of anise and minerality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A full, but attractive wine, with flavors of almonds, peaches and soft white fruits. It is quite fat, and lacks acidity, an effect of the hot 2003 vintage, giving a southern, herbal feel. It would work well with fish or strong cheeses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very ripe-smelling, but without going over the edge into overripeness. There’s plenty of cassis and blackberry flavor, not a lot of spice or complexity, but lovely, mouthfilling fruit. Supple and easy to drink now and over the next few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a mouthfilling Crozes-Hermitage; nicely balanced—neither too lush or too hard. If there’s any complaint, it’s a slight lack of complexity, as the dark fruit and coffee flavors aren’t particularly nuanced. Long on the finish, with a mineral note at the end.

A ripe, full-bodied Crozes, with herbal aromas, and great smoky, leathery flavors. Red fruits add to the mix, which also shows some barnyard characters which don’t offend and certainly add complexity. This is a well-made, good value wine. Drink now, and over 5 years.
