An ambitious attempt at a white Vacqueyras, as evidenced by the toasty, popcorn-scented oak. This is a wine that has the weight and mouthfeel to carry it, but not the fruit flavor. Drink now.

Seems to be already moving past its peak, with a bit of browning at the rim and advanced tobacco and dried-fruit aromas and flavors. Drink up.

Nicely complex nose of freshly crack black pepper, bright black berry fruit, hickory smoke and earthy, gamy notes. Layers of savory flavor, ripe bramble fruit, roasted meat and spice across the palate. Full-bodied, warm but balanced with a good tannic grip and lingering finish. A very honest wine.

This comes across as relatively unexpressive on the nose, but shows impressive ripeness and stone-fruit flavors on the palate. It’s still rather tannic, demanding 2–3 years of cellaring.

An easy style dominated by red berry fruit, but not simple thanks to complex notes of herbs and dusty mineral notes on the finish. Supple, fresh and easy to drink. Drink now–2009.
