Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Don’t confuse this very good Vacqueyras with Domaine Brusset’s Gigondas labeled Le Grand Montmirail. For one thing, this is considerably less expensive. After some initial sulfur notes blow off, complex scents of raspberries, coffee and dark chocolate blossom. It’s only medium-bodied, but shows excellent lift and verve on the extended finish. Drink now–2012.

Shows plenty of complexity—ranging from cherry fruit through peppery spice and bacon to iodine and horse sweat. Nice balance of medium body, soft tannins and just-crisp-enough acids. Now–2015.

This is aged in oak, but from the taste, you’d guess we’re talking used barrels, as the oak influence is limited to the lush mouthfeel. Leather, clove and spice elements add complexity and a sense of soul to the cherry fruit, which persists a good long time on the finish.
