Rough, earthy aromas give this wine a decidedly old-fashioned character, which is repeated on the palate. With its dominance of Grenache, this is a powerful wine, packed with herbs and tannins, and farmyard flavors. Great with equally powerful food. Imported by J et R Selections.

Decant this wine to help lessen the burnt match aroma that mars the nose initially. Once past that annoyance, this is a broad, very drinkable wine that blends pineapple notes with touches of honey, spice and alcoholic warmth. Drink now.

Intense but also fairly astringent, it’s tough to say where this wine is headed. The aromas are dark and brooding, while the flavors feature crisp blackberries, cola and cedar. The acids and tannins give this a firm backbone, the question is whether the fruit will stand up to it in the long run. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Starts off with lovely aromas of leather, smoke and cherries, then delivers bold flavors of brandied cherries and spice. It does shows its alcohol a little, and the tannins impart a rough-edged texture. Drink 2012–2018.
