As befits the most ageworthy of the Beaujolais crus, this is concentrated, firmly tannic stuff. Black berry flavors vie with cranberry acidity and texture. On top of that, there is dark toast and spice. Although it doesn’t lose sight of the fruit, it certainly needs aging.

Made from old vines, this has some concentration, but the crispness of the red berries and a touch of astringency conflict with the density of texture.

This is light, crisp and very fresh with vibrant fruit, touches of green pepper and red currant to finish. There is some wood here, from old barrel aging, rounding out the fruit and softening it.

A rich, rounded wine, benefiting from concentrated fruit. There are solid tannns, dark bitter cherry fruits, licorice and fine ripeness. The aftertaste is ripe and sweet.

From 30-year-old vines, this is a big, jolly wine packed with ripe fruits, red plum juice and a full burst of richness in the mouth. The fruit is so ripe it is almost sweet, leaving a delicious strawberry flavor.

For Primeur, read Nouveau in this wine that starts with a barnyard character, but that then turns into richness, a sign of the vintage. There is easy ripe cherry with a light touch of tannin. Bananas and acidity are there to finish.

A wine that brings out all the richness of 2009. It has great plum and red cherry flavors, touched with spice, then finished with sweet acidity. The concentration is there, along with final acidity.

While this is certainly structured, the wine shows green pepper flavors and very fresh raspberries, a product of the lightness of the vintage. It is attractive, offering some good freshness, but needs to be consumed now.

Rather lean, but with attractive red currant edginess, this is definitely a lightweight wine to be served chilled.

A firmly tannic wine, a complete contrast to Pierre Chermette’s other Fleurie, Poncié. This is serious, full of dark tannins, black plums and firm fruit, very solid. There is even a touch of minerality to add to the complex texture.
