This Merlot from Tupungato has clean, proper aromas and a fair amount of zesty cherry and raspberry flavors. Tangy on the finish, if a bit lean. Very nice Malbec for the money. The bouquet is floral and bright, with a hint of dry oak and mocha. The feel is full and well balanced, while the palate has a bright and lively personality with cherry, raspberry, chocolate and spice flavors. Smooth, tastes good and offers plenty of value.

Tight, dark aromas of tar, leather and meat outmuscle the semi-herbal berry scents that come later. The palate is full, structured and grabby, with prune, black licorice and pepper flavors. A ripe, full-bodied wine with a chunky finish. Good Malbec with 15% Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah mixed in.

Dark and heavily oaked on first blush, but give it time to unwind or let it sit in the bottle for a year or two and this will satisfy any Malbec lover. Early on, it’s dense and full of shoe polish, mint and coconut; later it spreads out to show sweet dark-berry flavors and finally a rich, almost sticky finish of woodspice, brown sugar and lushness.

Airy floral notes and a whiff of strawberry on the nose give this wine a lighter outlook, yet the palate is still fairly full-bodied as it offers ripe blackberry and chocolate flavors. Maybe a touch herbal here and there, but geneally speaking this is a solid, chewy Cabernet. 10,000 cases made.

Kind of reedy and covered with a veneer of wood that holds in the red cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors. Feels lean and wispy on the palate, where a bell pepper note creeps into the picture. Loses body the longer it sits.

Toasty but also pickled, with a lot of wood spice and other oak-based aromas and flavors. At one moment the wine seems to have the right stuff: citrus and some length. But upon further inspection the fruit turns foxy and shows itself to be overripe. Loses steam as it unfolds. Imported by North American Beverage Group.

Most of Bousquet’s wines are enigmatic. They show some good qualities but also signs of overcropping and underripeness. That said, this wine is typical: it’s scattershot in its delivery of green-infused berry fruit, tannins and wood. It’s O.K. but never settles down. Imported by North American Beverage Group.

Rubbery and overly woody, and the palate really burns along with high acidity and short, staccato fruit flavors. Zesty and challenging throughout; it just doesn’t push the right buttons given its reserve status and price.
