Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Powerful, rich, yeasty, packed with green and white fruits, this is a dense wine. The acidity throws a punch, but then the fruit is ripe enough to balance. Impressive wine, still developing.

Proof again from Pierre Luneau that Muscadet can age. This wine, 11 years old, still tastes fresh. The only concession to age is the loss of the high green primary fruits, but the flavors have then rounded out, still creamy, still full of vivacious acidity, but now with almonds, some toast and ripeness.

Super-fresh, this is tight, full of green fruit and crisp apple flavors. It has some concentration under all this freshness, a structure coming from the cool year. This is classic, but very superior, seafood-friendly Muscadet.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich and creamy outwardly, this is a wine with a dense, mineral core, which is built around tight apple skin flavors and crisp grapefruit. It is intense, lively, fresh but also concentrated.

Benefiting from the heat of 2003, here is a wine that is almost Burgundian in its richness. There is a hint of toast, of ripe apricots and a smooth, creamy texture. It’s certainly atypical, even though there is a finishing streak of acidity.

It’s an extraordinary wine that still tastes so fresh after 13 years, but for a Muscadet it’s almost unbelievable. Yet, here is this citrus and white currant flavored wine that still shows high acidity and liveliness as well as a depth of texture that has come during its aging. Probably at its peak now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The granite soil of the vineyard is dominant in this textured, mineral wine with its kerosene aroma and its taut, almost austere acidity. While the primary fruit has gone, this is still nowhere near mature, a wine that shows considerable freshness, life, potential.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The entry-level Muscadet in Pierre Luneau-Papin’s vast range of wines is still an impressive wine. Its freshness, lightness and crispness are supported by a good intensity of flavor, of white fruits and creamy acidity.

A delicate, crisp, elegant wine. It plays on white fruits, grapefruit, almonds and green plum skin acidity. There is richness at the same time, but that’s more from intensity, which then leads into a lively, green aftertaste.

There’s something of a clash here, between a superripe vintage and a wine that needs more crispness to be in balance. That said, this is a finely judged wine that rolls richly around the mouth, showing its pedigree and its power. A toasty element makes the wine even richer.
