This is a deep and brooding wine, if somewhat coarse and hard; the nose is loaded with the elemental soil from which it sprung, with mineral and gravel notes, dense sweet fruit, mostly black and coarse, tar, wood; coarse but appealing, like a longshoreman with a smile; rough flavors of black fruits, earth, a bit grating in the mouth with gravelly tannins; still a wine that gets your attention and keeps it with a certain amount of intimidation.
