This cuvée is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, and the nose leaps out with vanilla wafer, yeast and toasted nuts. It has the extra fruit power of domestic bubbly, and lacks the finesse of real Champagne. Yeasty and round, it finishes a bit short with a hint of plastic. But at this price point it’s a wine to savor, that brings a lot of enjoyment to the table.

This Oregon sparkler is lovely to look at, a pale pink with a tiny bead. It’s scented with caramel and meringue, and tastes lightly of cherry soda. In the mouth it is light and creamy, with delicate, candy-like flavors that quickly fade.

This opens with a strong scent of herb and bud; it’s sharp and aggressively leafy. The wine follows with similar flavors. The light fruit flavors of plum and berry are quickly suffocated with leaf, herb, earth, spice and tannin. Time may be the answer.

This new brand previously released their second label brut (Discovery), but this is the more "serious" offering. It’s a 100% barrel-fermented blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%). Youthful and fresh, it sports generous, tiny bubbles and a yeasty vitality. Green apples and a hint of apricot lead into an elegant, toasty finish.

Admirably toasty, but seems a bit soft and unfocused on the palate, with modest flavors of mushroom and earth.

Boasts a reddish-copper color and a fine bead, but doesn’t give up a lot on the nose—just hints of berries and toast. Tastes more earthy and mushrooomy, with a creamy mouthfeel but a short finish.

A rich, ripe and round wine, this is the first year in which Domaine Meriwether has made Pinot Gris. It’s immediately enjoyable, with a mix of stone fruits and hints of papaya and mango. The wine persists nicely and wraps itself into a finish that tastes of juicy fruit gum and more tropical fruits, with a hint of pear skin. It’s soft and seductive; definitely a drink-me-now type of wine.

There is a lot of smoky, charred new wood here, layered upon tangy cherry and cranberry fruit. An astringent, crisp style that drew mixed reviews from our panel. Should improve with time.

Fresh and clean, with scents and flavors of ripe apples and a beery, leesy note. This blend of 58% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay boasts an aggressive bead that gives it a brash, in-your-face quality ideal for casual summer sipping, less so for elegant, formal occasions.
