Sweet and smooth aromatics yield to a palate of modest raspberry and strawberry fruit that is pumped up by a blast of supporting vanilla oak. The finish is light and simple, while proper acidity lends needed structure. It’s yet another classic bistro wine from the land of bistro wines. —M.S.

From the base of the Pyrenées comes this blend of Merlot, Syrah and Grenache. The nose offers fresh ripe berries and a hint of citrus rind, but the palate is more dilute and scattered. It also carries a slight pickled taste, probably courtesy of the barrels it was aged in. The texture is good and the tannins are tame, but all in all it just doesn’t rise to the occasion. —M.S.
