So pure, so Riesling. Pine nuts, wild forest flowers, baked custard (botrytis?), lemon and lime, mineral (slate, granite). Richly textured, very dry with real tartness in the finish, and great acid that bites into the palate. A joy to drink.

A beautiful wine, balancing acidity, spice and fresh peach flavors with structure and ageability. This brings out all the characters of great Pinot Gris, elegance and power combining in harmony. Imported by Maisons Marques & Domaines USA.

This textbook Gewurz opens with aromas of gingerbread, ripe peaches, and other white and yellow stone fruits. It’s quite luscious and full-bodied in the mouth, with sprightly, peppery acidity. Finishes with a trace of sweetness. Yummy.

A delightful wine that makes you think of springtime, green apples, and baklava! I mean the nutty, cinnamon and honey flavors. Vibrant acidity sets it off, and it’s just the tiniest bit sweet.

Attractive aromas of mineral and slate are hampered by some musty notes. Nonetheless, the palate is well-structured, with refreshing acidity reinforcing mineral notes. This is an austere, dry style perfect for those who shy away from the fruitier examples.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine will suit those who are drawn to Riesling’s food-pairing genius but don’t want the explosion of fruit this variety normally provides. The nose is mineral-driven with aromas of beeswax while the palate is quite austere and finishes with a dry, acidic kick.

While most varietal character is gone, this wine does show an explosion of ripe, honeyed sweetness, with a rich, liquorous texture. There is spice, bergamot, dried apricot in a smooth and opulent coating.

The subdued nose on this example will appeal to drinkers who avoid fruity, highly aromatic wines. The fairly concentrated palate, which shows some pleasant nutty notes, is slightly off-dry but the finish is crisp due to a good level of supporting acidity. Serve with baked or pan-seared fish.

As the owner of more vineyards than any other Alsace producer, Schlumberger lords it over Guebwiller in the south of the region. This Riesling from the Saering vineyard is already showing petrol aromas, and the palate has lost some youthful acidity, replacing it with a light sweetness, flavors of currants and even peaches. There is acidity, though, and this suggests it will mature further.
