Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pungent aromas of tangerine and passionfruit get it going, so it’s not shocking that the palate is zesty and citric, with flavors of passionfruit, lemon and orange. A little dilute in body, with passionfruit as the prime survivor on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pure on the nose, with plenty of pop. Aromas of dark black cherry are tight and smoky, with minerality. Flavors of cola and wild-berry fruits are right on the money, and the feel is firm but deep and layered. Offers fine character and ageability. A blend of Malbec from three top vineyards; drink through 2014.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tough cherry and plum aromas lead it off, followed by simple, semitart raspberry flavors. There’s not much depth or complexity; the palate bounces along inoffensively, and the finish is quick and light. Clean and basic wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit heavy and muddled up front, but that could be construed as being earthy. The flavors run a touch green, but along with that leaning there’s zesty red fruit and some tannin. Grabby but not harsh. Imported by Vineyard Brands.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Crisp and tight, with firm tannins and acids. Also a bit vegetal, but not overly. Flavors of black fruit and licorice are standard fare. A pedestrian, drinkable Merlot with some style.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pear and honey aromas belie a palate that’s mostly citrus, tangerine and sweet grapefruit. Finishes persistent, with a juicy, clean, mildly watery mouthfeel. Not bad within its category.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hard and spiky on the nose, and not a whole lot better in the mouth. The flavors are tart and juicy, while the lean finish is ultratangy and sharp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Deep and juicy Malbec with aromas of violets, blackberry, coconut shavings and mineral. There’s also a cedary element to the nose and palate. Otherwise, look for full-force wild berry and cassis flavors and a smooth, clean finish. Nothing awkward or forced; Doña Paula’s best Malbec ever. Drink now through 2013.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From the yellow tint through the ripe tropical fruit, this is Argentinean Chardonnay in its truest form. Los Cardos is the second label from Doña Paula, itself a spinoff of Chile’s Santa Rita. The nose offers popcorn along with pear and licorice, and the texture and flavors are solid as a statue. “Cardos,” in Spanish, are thistles, but there’s nothing prickly about this well-priced Chard.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The richest and most concentrated on Doña Paula’s Chards, this one has enough fruit intensity to support the oak treatment. Melon and citrus aromas lead the way, accented by light toasted-oat scents. Melon and white peach flavors flow easily across the palate, riding a rich, viscous mouthfeel. Smooth finish, nicely integrating fruit and oak.
